Educational Resources for Families

The BES library desires to partner with our students' families to provide valuable resources that can be accessed at home to help students grow in their journey to become lifelong readers and learners. Scroll down to view various digital and community resources to support your child's education at home. These resources are also located on our Useful Links page to make it easy for students to access age-appropriate resources in one location.

Seesaw

Seesaw is an online platform for teachers and students to record and share what's happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives students a place to document learning, be creative, and learn how to use technology. Students can log on to the Seesaw app at home by accessing it through Clever on the back of the take-home folder. Parents are encouraged to download the Seesaw app to view and make comments on your child's work as well as communicate directly with your child's teacher.

BES eBooks

Our school has over 300 ABDO & Capstone ebooks that can be accessed at any time and any where on an internet-accessible device. Most of these ebooks read the text aloud giving students the opportunity to track across the text, learn new vocabulary, and build fluency. This feature can be turned off so students can then practice reading the text at their own pace. All of these fiction and nonfiction ebooks are on a first or second grade reading level.

Epic

Epic is an online children's subscription book service offering immediate, on-demand access to over 35,000 high-quality illustrated books and chapter books for children ages 12 and under. Students can access Epic through Clever or use the Epic Code on the back of your child's take-home folder to access Epic at home.

PebbleGo

PebbleGo is a curricular content database specifically designed for K-3 students. Students can explore Pebble Go to learn about animals, dinosaurs, & science by using the read aloud option. Families can access all the resources for free through the Alabama Virtual Library, click on Elementary School and scroll through the resources to find Pebble Go. Students can also access PebbleGo through their Clever account.

BookFlix

Scholastic BookFlix has thematically paired fiction and nonfiction titles that are designed to bridge learning-to-read and reading-to-learn. Animated storybooks introduce early learners to the delights of reading and provide a natural springboard to the paired nonfiction text for deeper discovery. Students can access BookFlix through their Clever account or email clancaster@boazk12.org to request log on information.

TumbleBooks

TumbleBooks is an online database of children's eBooks made available through the Boaz Public Library. TumbleBooks has over 1,100 titles available for K-6th grade students and includes animated picture books, read-along chapter books, national geographic videos, non-fiction books, and books in Spanish. Access Tumble Books through the Boaz Public Library's website or through the student's Clever account.

OverDrive & Libby

The Boaz Public Library offers free access to ebooks for all ages. By signing up for a free library card at the Boaz Public Library, families can help students navigate and locate digital books for children through the Overdrive or Libby websites or apps. Libby is a new platform by Overdrive that is more user-friendly. Because this service offers resources for all ages, please be mindful that students need a parent to help limit their access to ebooks that are age-appropriate.

Clever

Clever is a personalized portal with a single login for students to access multiple recommended resources from their teacher. Students can access iReady Reading, iReady Math, Seesaw, and many other online resources through Clever. Students can log into Clever with the personalized QR code on the back of their take-home folder. Follow the instructions listed underneath their QR code on their folder to login to Clever at home.

Alabama Virtual Library

The Alabama Virtual Library is a free resource online for residents of Alabama. AVL offers age-appropriate resources for elementary students that include ebooks, Encyclopedia Britannica, and kid-friendly databases like Gale and PebbleGo. There is even a language learning course called Pronunciator for all ages. AVL is a great tool to use in helping any age student find reliable and valid information for school projects.
